Lamia Al Ansari (MD, MB CHB / Baghdad, Iraq) worked in Baghdad’s hospitals for 9 years as a resident doctor and in 1995 acquired a diploma in anaesthesia from Baghdad. She worked for 14 years in Libya as an anaesthesia doctor in the cancer institute and pain management clinic. In 2015 she joined the Jewish Family Services as a caseworker for Arab seniors for a year, then went on to be a program coordinator and facilitator of the Syrian Refugee Mental Health and Wellbeing Program a program for front-line workers. As of 2020 Lamia has been a coordinator and facilitator for Newcomers’ Mental Health and Wellness support programs.

Samoon Tasmim (PhD Candidate, Psychotherapy) is a mental health professional with over 7 years of international and Canadian experience as a psychotherapist. His clinical work focuses on the mental health of immigrants and newcomers to Canada. He has worked closely with leading immigrant-serving organizations including Muslim Family Services of Ottawa, Ottawa Muslim Community Services and REPFO. He joined the Jewish Family Services of Ottawa in 2021 as Mental Health Training Facilitator. Samoon is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Counselling and Psychotherapy focusing on Psychotherapy for Immigrant communities.
